Beginning Year Basics
In this full day session, Kim will share how to get everything started! Starting with the Open House and working through those first 30 days of school, Kim will share how to create a learning environment that will set the tone for the rest of the year. Creating Confident Readers (full day)
In this full day session, Kim will share ideas on how to develop a complete reading program. Kim will model how to launch the Reader’s Workshop and how to use that structure to teach the Reading Literature and Reading Informational Text Standards. She will also share fun, teacher tested ways to build phonemic awareness through games and other activities. She will also share comprehension strategies including dramatics, reader’s theaters, story maps, and other student centered activities.
 
Creating Confident Writers
Want to develop a writing curriculum that will put the kids in control of their own writing? Kim will share ideas on how to develop a complete writing curriculum that will use a structure that can be implemented year round. During this session, she will model how to launch the writer’s workshop and how to use the structure to teach your kiddos how to construct personal narratives.

This session is packed full of research based strategies that will increase the reading comprehension of your students. Kim will share creative ideas for retelling, making connections, compare/contrast, and using schema.
